Baltimore has gained a reputation for being idiosyncratic with a lot of character, and the music and recording scene here is no exception. There are many interesting things happening in and around the city that break the mold of typical recording facilities. In 2008, Rolling Stone Magazine honored Baltimore for having the best live music scene in the country.

As the musical community continues to thrive, a logical next question is where all of these acts will lay down their tracks. With proximity to many major cities, bands travel to New York or other places to record; here I hope to explore and illuminate some of what Baltimore has to offer in the recording arts. From the humble home setup to the multi-million dollar recording suites, the art of engineering audio is as much about the human behind the knobs as it is the quality of the equipment.
